Why, Hello There (again)!

It has been a while, hasn’t it?
I hope you have been doing well during these times. Indeed, that pandemic caused us many troubles.

So, I will have some spoken thoughts down here. Bear with me if you could, hopefully, it wouldn’t be long.

I have been “visiting some fandoms.” Not much, only Genshin Impact, Hololive, and Vtubers in general. Genshin is a great game, but not its creators. I don’t like how they distribute gacha currency. Too selfish, yikes. But its recent contents, “Enkanomiya” bears the theme of “artificial sun in the abyss.” To put it into more familiar terms, it would be “subterranean sun.” And you know who owns that title in Touhou. Its OST with strings and piano arrangements, somewhat reminds me of RD too, yeah. For Vtuber, I prefer Nijisanji EN. More language-friendly and engaging. After Kiryuu Coco left, my enthusiasm for Hololive died down drastically.

With the release of Touhou 18 (holy, eighteen, can’t believe it), I found myself falling behind with the new characters, themes, and storyline. At first, I didn’t think of “going back” and thought that I’d rather stay in Touhou “prime time.” That “prime time” would be Windows 1-3, up to Touhou 15. My favorite characters aka “waifu” characters remain the same through out 4-5 year-ish? Still Utsuho, Hecatia, and Seiga. My beloved.

Visiting this page with the drafts I never published, it is like cleaning a library covered with spider webs. I miss those times with friends all over the world, messaging them to ask them for translation and lyrics scans. Good times. On the other hand, some of Touhou channels reuploading songs got copyright striked due to some cirlces decided to put their works on digital platforms. It’s sad to see them gone but now we can support them in a legal way. So, two sides of a coin, I guess.

I have translated most of the Who’s Who Human and Youkai of Gensokyo articles but never posted them. I think, it would be a waste to not public. The lastest album from RD, △ -tetra-, caught my attention with great tracks. I like how RD builds and interpret Hifuu Club concepts. I would never forget what happens in -utsutsu-.

For this re-opening, unless something caught my attention or I’m open for Vietnamese song requests, I would mainly focus on RD-Sounds’ works and Who’s Who Human and Youkai of Gensokyo articles ONLY. I have to limit myself as I still have massive workload at school and need rest for myself. Having this as a benefical hobby once again is to distract me from playing too many games. Besides, the articles are now compiled quite a lot to have its own book. That would take a lot of my time on this page.

I miss the old editor on WordPress. The new block editor sucks. Really. It might take a while for me to finally get accustomed to all these new visuals and codes. With that, some presentations might change, but not that drastically. It also depends on how I get familiar with new things.

I will still operate this blog single-handedly. Most of these random thoughts would be informal and somewhat personal. I will use Vietnamese or English depends on when I feel like it. This blog has now shrunk down to something even more “personal.” All of this, I do it for myself and for the ones who still love Touhou and a residence of Gensokyo.

… and that is not the most creative way to name a title.

Anyway, hello! It’s been a very long while. I hope you are doing well, as always.

FIRST. THING. FIRST.
After 5 years of waiting, Fumofumo Hecatia is no longer a dream. I shouted in teary eyes, when I saw the announcement during Reitaisai 21 yesterday. Look at her bowling balls. I swear I will get her as soon as amiami drop the purchase link. The announcement post can be found here on Twitter. Fumo Utsuho also got announced a bit earlier (before RTS21, I think), I will get her as well and bid farewell to my credit card woo. Now, only Seiga-nyan nyan to my collection and I will be a good, happy, healthy art maker with a terrible back pain in my basement.

Back to the main stuff. I didn’t expect someone would be commenting on my “Expect a return soon!” back then. I was speechless when I saw a notification. I do expect myself to do something with this blog in general. But uuh, life does take the most unexpected turn. Anyway, I’ve been investing all of my time and my all for character design and concept illustrations. I’ll soon leave my status as a college student and graduate in this May. I love drawing pretty female characters, such as my OCs and yes, my dear forever lovely Touhou characters: Utsuho, Hecatia and Seiga. Do you think I really escape all that Touhou analagoies? Never. Not at all. I even put Easter eggs on my OC design hehehehehehe. Oh, and the photo below is a part of my big project that I’ve been working on for quite a while. :>

My biggest art project, (id):entities, a 40-page art booklet featuring my OCs.
Except for the monotone-duo and the red-haired courtesan, “Yuuka” has existed since my early years of loving Touhou. Of course, there has been many different revisions, but the core concept should be the same. If you can tell, the photo above is her concept design. I eat and live with Touhou everyday, but I’m not that vocal in expressing it anymore. Just silently doing so. And for some reasons, the photo of my corner in my school art museum is so blurry, but it should be clear enough to see how it turns out. (Please don’t doxx me, I want to stay alive). I will not get too much of myself but making a 44-page (cover included) booklet in 3 months is still pretty wild. I did reuse some of my past works to fill in the blanks, but it was really a one hell of a roller coaster ride.

I don’t think I’ve ever written something in that scale (mostly English but sometimes Vietnamese). The screenshot is from my artbook/zine planning which includes: task lists, process checkpoint, content writing, logistics. The last three months has been really busy and I really “enjoyed” (?) it. I like to keep myself occupied and constantly making art so that I don’t feel guilty when I’m not creating something. Yes, I know, resting is important too. It’s just that my caffein consumption level has been really odd. I might update more on this on my art Twitter @pyuuchi_desuu. I will not use this page to PR my art stuff. This would be the only time I mention my art Twitter here. This blog will strictly be my place to write/translate stuff.

There are still many unpublished posts in my draft queue, prominently translations for Who’s Who of Humans & Youkai in Gensokyo articles. Before going hibernate, it has been my passion project and I did make a lot of progress. Now that the character list has expanded, it feels really overwhelmed. For RD-Sounds, I haven’t checked out his new stuff since -yuwai-. I love the concept of connections, but somehow it doesn’t resonate with my music taste. -tetra- was the last album I did a full deep dive to look for clues and hints. I love those experiences when listening to RD’s works. (Definitely not hinting that I project that idea into making my artbook-). So most of the time, I only listen to the stuff that I translated or encountered back then.

So, what’s next for “Petalite Yuu?”
This question has been lingering in my head for quite a while. Looking back at all the translations I’ve done, interacting with other amazing translators in the Touhou community nostalgically hit me really hard. At some point, I came across of some Vietnamese translation I did, and I was like, “why did I mistakenly translate this?” and just laughed off. Oh the young, naive me. That raised me the question of should I upload an “updated” version of it? It’s just Vietnamese, so at the same time, it’s unnecessary to do so. I also don’t want to edit directly on the existing one because I want to see how foolish I was. :D I lost access to my OneNote account where I store posting templates (especially the “Original Title” and “Source” section, see screenshot below). It really discouraged me for a long time, and I didn’t have time to document all the Touhou tracklists as the series grew very rapidly for the past 2 years. Also, new editing layout is still weird but I slowly get used to it.
I don’t want to make vain promises to myself (or to the people who’s actually looking forward to see new stuff here). Again, it is so wild to see a commenter on this dust-covered page.

I will not abandon this blog, ever. But I don’t see a long consistent vision for my activities on this page. I will still visit it once in a while. Maybe a surprise translation or a post like this once in a blue moon? Inactive is a big word. I love doing illustrations most of my time now. If a song strongly sparks my interest to play with words, I’ll definitely pop out of nowhere like this.

“Petalite Yuu” will forever be my safe space, my sanctuary.

I have been replaying this song recently. 7 years ago, I was confused why Nazohato dedicated this subbed video to me (and my birthday). Me at the present time, reading the lyrics and their caption in the description makes me cry a lot. I’ve been struggling with in real life stuff and failed to see my own existence in this world. So, it’s in vain, -itazura-, like how this album is. :)

I’m forever grateful for this song, and this video, specifically.
